Ex Nihilo VIII: Pressure

Pressure is easily defined based on latitude and the presence of landforms. The rules are defined based on posts from here.

July
January

These parts aren't very exciting. But they're helpful as a public log of my progress.

  1. I'm assuming red is high pressure? It may be just the way you're displaying it, but it doesn't look like the land is causing as much influence as it should. Though elevation, and not just the presence of land, also plays a part and maybe that's my assumptions....

    1. Yes, red high, blue low.

The Ur-post for the pressure systems is here: https://www.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?t=27782&p=280255&viewfull=1#post280255

The influence of elevation is a good point. I thought I remembered that elevation doesn't affect large-scale pressure systems as much, or at least enough to handwave away for a project like this. But that's something I'll look into.

I haven't given as much thought to pressure as I should have largely because the only thing I really use it for is wind speed. And that definitely is affected by elevation.

Looking at it again, the July bands do look a bit thin. So I'll doublecheck everything again.

  2. Land mass is still the most important factor, but if you look at a pressure map of earth you can see that a lot of the high pressure areas are over or near large mountain ranges
